I heard that said on a news show yesterday. My take on india is that the bulk of the population is extrememly poor. As of today they have over a billion people or 3.3x that of the US. So that would put their middle class at 33% to hit our total population while the rest are far poorer than our poorest citizens and their rich far fewer i imagine.
