No, it makes an exception only when the mother's LIFE is already in critical, life-threatening danger. What you continually do not get is that the time span between HEALTH and LIFE can be seconds long. You would be surprised how quickly a healthy person can destablize into death when they are losing oodles of blood - my mother nearly died, lost gobs of blood, blood transfusion, entered shock, preciptious drop in blood pressure, the hole thing, they thought they were going to lose my Mom. It is insufficient to have a life clause, because by then it is WAY too late. At an absolute minimum, it must be a HEALTH clause, or you unintentionally are advocating the murder of pregnant women. You aren't educated enough on the topic that you feel so strongly about, and you don't have all the facts: Deaths due to anti-abortion laws were 50 percent of the nation's total maternal mortality, according to a U.S. Department of Labor study titled ``Maternal Mortality" [ Mercury News ] RE: "are you worried about pregnant women who have abusive husbands" In a male-dominated society, THOSE death figures aren't even included in the maternal mortality figures, so you need to tack on a huge percentage more to the 50% if this law isn't blocked. You are so uninformed on the facts, for someone that has black/white judgment. You really don't care about the life of a mother. RE: "I care more about what mothers go through than you could imagine, Amy. Many of them seeking abortions don't feel like it's a choice." Give me a break. The govt program WIC (pronounced "Wicky") gives poor women free services - I have an immigrant friend that used this as well as other free govt services. In fact, the free programs for poor people is so much better than Intel's health care, that a pregnant female engineer could be substantially better off quitting Intel and getting on the govt's free programs. I kid you not. The health care discrimination against female engineers is horrible. But if you're a poor immigrant female - California govt will protect you and only them. So these women have to quit their jobs to get better care. How ironic. RE: "It's just something they feel they "have" to do because to them, society has closed off all of the other options." That's nonsense. There are tons and tons of adoption oranizations and a simple google search would put them in touch with an organization. Nearly all churches have adoption centers for their members as well as outside members. In Santa Clara county alone there are more than a dozen adoption clinics. I have friends that have adopted from both the State foster system, private adoption agencies as well as churches. As you focus exclusively on abortion, you are completely ignoring a men and women's other right: their right to have a child. While you focus exclusively on abortion, you are missing out on advancing society to the next level. Where is a women's right to have a child - for example, where is their right to have fertility care? Do you realize California legistlatures have passed legislature that indirectly prohibits the right for companies to purchase this insurance for their employees? Let's be specific to Intel, where are the lactation sites at Intel? Where's the sign for it? Did you know that women that breastfeed must pump every 2 to 3 hours? (At least, that's what my friends have to do.) Their only option is basically to quit their jobs, because corporations do not give women the right to lactate. If you don't think that's discriminatory. In conclusion, I have one poor friend that was an illegal immigrant from over the border that had her care 100% covered through the govt, meanwhile, I see Intel women suffering without proper care. The bottom-line: if you are poor, you'll get help, but if you're smart, educated and working you have no rights. Where is your outrage to that? RE: "society has closed off all of the other options" The options are closed only in their heads. It's the most conservative people that tend to close their options. Regards, Amy J
