"The Sunnis are maximally screwed if the country divides up."

The Sunnis were our natural allies in creating a federal Iraq. But, because they were allied with Saddam, we took them apart, dissolved their army, disallowed Baathists in government and set the Shiia up to take over. What a massive, losing blunder!

Now, the group that should have been our allies in a federal outcome are the insurgency fighting against us. Our military defends the groups with the most to gain from a divided Iraq.

This whole adventure has been a lesson in complete and ongoing foreign policy incompetence. We need to write it off to experience, get out, and use it as a lesson to stay out of foreign entanglements for ANOTHER 35 years.
