Crabbe,
I guess ethnocentrism lives and breaths in HK as well as NZ and the US.

No guessing required... my personal experience tells me you are exactly correct... Not a shot at anyone mind you... and ethnocentricity is not necessarily racism.. I mean the Italians in Toronto (a not insignificant population) love to cheer for Italy in soccer... Folks like to cheer the positve contributions of their group on society at large... it's natural..

In viewing the Chinese and their mainland faults... the comparitives are not always fair... You know like ill treatment of blacks in America is now becoming History while the Tibet issue is still often raised... are they not quite contemporary in many ways ?

And lastly ... yes I can also tell you first hand that when it comes to bigotry the Chinese are also not without sin...

Al

hello crabbe, i believe the trend is far more important than position at any given time

as to <<total disregard for intellectual properties>>, the statement is simultaneous true and false

folks who have ip care about it, and folks who do not have also care about it

the free for all introduces a certain jungle dynamism that is absent elsewhere, and engenders competition on full-spectrum basis, necessitating true smarts and genuine innovation to counter ... i have just described the competitive space within china, and now, they are outward bound, targeting the lower 2/3 of global consumer pyramid, occupying the countrysides, to surround the citadels, before taking out the top 1/3 of same consumer pyramid

recent shopping and venturing expeditions by know folks indicate the reach for ip is on, and so, in time, protection for same will be

that is the big picture

the small view, limited in time sequence, based on static snaps, is trivial, and not made so by my take

as for ethnocentrism, not really, couldn't care less, neither here nor there, as i cheer for trinidadians on their glory road to world cup finals, go go go

chugs, j
