Re : ethanol -- I am not sure ethanol is as "good" as it appears.

Just as in the case of raising cattle, you can calculate how much petroleum is used to produce the corn (or sugar) that eventually becomes the ethanol.

If they could turn ragweed into ethanol, well then maybe that would be something great !

Jon.

C2, be careful of conducting investments using "no brain" decision making.

Ethanol can easily be undercut by OPEC which simply has to pump more ready-made liquid hydrocarbons. Ethanol producers have a much harder row to hoe. hahahah... that's a good one Mq....

They have to do a LOT before they even get to a crop in a big tank ready for fermentation. OPEC just turns a tap. Okay, they do have to dig some more wells sometimes, but those are easy enough in their neck of the woods.

Noocular is expensive to produce and the decommissioning bonds are a big expense too. People don't want dopey nuclear power plant operators going broke leaving the community to pay for the decommissioning and waste management.

The best thing to do is tax hydrocarbons at the USA border, and cut taxes by twice as much. That would create a big economic turbo-charge in the USA. Maybe including nuclear power production. Or photo voltaics, crops, technology and efficiency improvements, down-sizing, insulation and so on.

If the USA put a big tax of imported hydrocarbons, that would leave more for me!! OPEC would have to cut prices like crazy to sell it. Yaayyyy!!! We don't have the market to develop superconductors, electronic traffic management and other tricks, which the USA can do. We need the cheap oil. Then we can buy the USA fancy new energy and transport technologies when the USA has developed them.
