JF, The cultural war you propose would be, in essence, the end of civilization. Is that what you want? That's like saying I'm "proposing" a nuclear war to resolve the Iran nuclear issue. Of course I don't want to see a culture war. I'm all for what Amy is proposing, which is finding common ground. One simplistic example of compromise would be the right putting away their neocon ideals, the left putting up some sort of stance against material and sexual decadence, and the Middle Easterners dropping their fears of modernism.
