I had a strong hunch that TV on the phone was going to be VERY BIG. There is a certain segment of the population that is addicted to talking on the phone and watching TV. I see these kinds of people every day. They are have no job, drive a crappy car, and have a cell phone glued to their ear constantly. And anywhere you go these people have a TV set blasting away in every home and store. And for some reason, they would rather spend money on a cell phone status symbol than have a nice place to live. So long as they can "pay as you go" they seem to scrape up a few bucks here and there and keep the thing functioning. These same consumers will be buying into TV in a big way. Media Flo will be a smashing success, and IMHO the next killer app. Everyone will want to have a tiny portable tv set in their pocket. The neat thing is that if they use the same business model for TV on cell phones as they do for free over the air TV, and only charge a small access fee monthly and allow commercials to pay the bulk of the expense, it could be very affordable for even poor people. (unlike data which to me is far to expensive for the average user)

re DVB-H

Qualcomm has recently reported to be incorporating DVB-H into their chips.

This is presumably a lesson learned from the holy wars part I where it was maybe. better to join them rather than fight them.

Does anyone know if Qualcomm has the requesite licenses to produce chips with this technology?

From this July 2005 article c10n.info
they list that the initial group of essential patent holders included France Telecom, Panasonic (Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd.), Philips, and Victor Company of Japan, Limited (JVC).
