<<The ones who arrived here in past generations came in legally.>>

That's actually not the case. The federal government DID have fewer laws regarding immigration, leaving it up to the states where the constitution says it belongs. But there was no "legal" immigration. They ALL came just like the Hispanics: They showed up, drawn by economic demand.

The point is that we have written a completely unreasonable law based 100% on anti-Hispanic racism, promoted by a segment of conservatives, along with the usual cow-eyed populists. It's not only a national disgrace, it goes against everything that ever made America great in the first place.

And these racists still have a chance to win, though it's dwindling every day. The emerging Hispanic middle class VOTES, just like the Irish and others before them. (In Democrat precincts, the illegals most likely vote too, at LEAST once.)

Ironically (or maybe fortunately) none of the currently-visible presidential possibilities on either side are "send 'em all back" ethnic cleansers. Bush's ideas are, as always, prevailing. If the Republicans turn to a immigration racist in 2008, he'll get CLOBBERED...
