09:21 Further color on MU/LEXR acquisition

WR Hambrecht believes the pending acquisition of Lexar Media (LEXR) by Micron (MU) has far-reaching implications on stocks in their research coverage universe. They view this as a positive for M-Systems (FLSH), as a pure play to the NAND flash suppliers. They believe this acquisition will likely improve M-Systems N.A.N.D flash supply position in 2006, especially with Samsung and Hynix. The firm views this as neutral to positive for Silicon Motion Technology (SIMO) as they believe that with Lexar Media as a 15% customer, Silicon Motion Technology will likely benefit from increased demand for its controllers for the combined entity in the long-run. However, the firm believes there is some potential risk that Micron (MU), which has its own controller technology, and as the new entity, will opt to use its internal product on new controller designs.
