When the organization was in the Sudan, it was al Qaeda. When bin Laden was forced to leave the Sudan and move his center of operations to Afghanistan, it was al Qaeda. When it became an arm of the Taliban military, it was al Qaeda. When the Taliban was fighting the Northern Alliance, the Taliban's best fighters were generally considered to be it's foreign "Arab" troops - al Qaeda. When the Afghani commander fighting the Taliban was killed by terrorists pretending to jounalists, they were members of al Qaeda. When terrorists brought down the World Trade Center, they were members of al Qaeda - an arm of the Taliban military. Al Qaeda fought for the Taliban, and the Taliban fought for al Qaeda. So do I think that the Taliban was responsible in some manner for 9-11, I'd have to say - Yes.
