The rest of the world depends on us to save their effete asses if there is ever any military need.

We have assumed, for better or worse, a special duty as the world's only superpower.

As for the "military supporting the contracts" -- you really didn't pay attention to how the deal happened.

Yes, Congress wrote the law and the law was followed -- but when they saw the result they realized they need to rewrite the law.

OK, I am not going to convince you on the necessity of keeping American coastal shipping in the control of American companies. But this is something I've been railing about for years. We need a secure Merchant Marine, we need secure ports. You don't agree, I don't need to argue with you.

Congress heard me.

This was a the policy of get Bush and they now have their first major victory. Can't wait to see what other harm they can do with their agenda. Protectionism has never served the economy very well but hey, lets kill the economy in order to get Bush.

best we get the others out of the ports now

Then we can just sit back and watch foreign investment dollars start to flee the United States.

If investors get the idea that their investments are at risk because they are at the whim of the likes of Chucky Schumer, we will see an exodus of capital from the US like never before.
