We fought WWII without TRULY being sure of winning. Actually, it was only in hindsight that we recognized that Midway was the turning point in the Pacific that prevented the fall of Hawaii to the Japanese, although some assert that the Battle of Coral Sea, and the prevention of the invasion of Australia was the real turning point. Without Australia as a base, we would never have had the ability to conduct the type of operations we did. But this is different. This is not conventional war in the traditional sense. This is a war between ideologies, not necessarily countries, and the battleground is not in the US, but in other countries where Islamo-Fascism is showing greater strength against the corrupt and totalitarian regimes in the region. This is like trying to fight global communism PRIOR to the Russian Revolution. An attempt to prevent the ideology from achieving an actual base of operations, such as they did in Afghanistan, or may have achieved in Palestine. What we've revealed for the entire Muslim world to see is that, as much as they may hate the US, they now have to realize that Islamo-Fascists are just as likely to kill innocent muslims, as they are to kill westerners. The car bombs are blowing up school children, blowing up sacred mosques, and trying to "talibanize" any town they manage to occupy (however temporarily). We're removing the mystique and "glamor" from the religious and political agenda of the Islamo-Fascists. Unfortunately, whether because of incessant negativism, cultural and military blunders like Abu G, or just the kind of obvious racism we just witnessed in the Dubai issue, we're not winning much love for the US. But while I hope that this changes in coming years, my main concern is that Muslims face the reality that Islamo-Fascism is not something to be admired or supported. I want them to recognize that they have a religious/political civil war heading toward them that is going to force them to take a stand... totalitarianism, or tolerance and progressiveness. No longer can rational muslims speak with admiration for the atrocities of the Islamo-Fascists. That, IMO, is where the victory will lie... helping them to recognize the threat and supporting their fight against it. Because I really have no desire to see millions of American youths mobilized and deployed to fight a third world war that would require us taking on a billion muslims because we permitted militancy to hijack their religion.
