eracer,I do believe the Conroe benchmarks are at least somewhat in the ballpark. I don't know what that means.

Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at an Elingsh uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht frist and lsat ltteer is at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a toatl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae we do not raed ervey lteter by itslef but the wrod as a wlohe.

eracer, I don't participate in the EPS Contest. I'm 100% invested in AMD, off margins though. You can do the same with Intel if their future is so bright. Unless you have some doubts, but no, Intel would not do that :-)

I don't get your obsession with this Conroe demo, you're out of AMD, you don't own Intc... Just your ego?

Re: giving a 2.66GHz Conroe a performance advantage over a 2.8GHz Socket AM2 Athlon 64 X2

Very possible, even likely.

But not a 40% IPC advantage.

Not a 30% IPC advantage.

Not a 20% IPC advantage.

At which point AMD will be shipping 3+ghz parts.

By the time Intel ships a 3.3ghz Conroe (which may forever be a mythical speed, like the 4.6ghz P4 demoed by Intel at the 2002 IDF), I expect AMD to well beyoned 3ghz - with real chips than can be bought.
