Nice post.. Have to say I agree with almost all of it as to what our goals should be..

But I have to disagree with the following:

Half of Europe was lost to communism. Did we win? Sure we won the war but the post war was beyond us.

Eastern Europe was lost because we failed to push, back by military force if necessary, the guarantee of free elections, freedom of speech/press, and credibly competitive elections between varying ideologies so that the people had a choice.

No.. We were tired and neither America nor Britain had the stomach for a fight with the Red Army (despite the fact that it was EVEN MORE tired and we vastly outnumbered them and had the additional advantage of nuclear weapons).

And those foolish liberals, such as Roosevelt and Truman believed they could "trust" Stalin to keep his word to guarantee democracy in the zones it occupied..
