My understanding is that a number of the Gulf States started aiding Hamas during the first Gulf War because they still wanted to send aid to the Palestinians, but halted aid the PLO - because Arafat supported Saddam's invasion of Kuwait (I believe the EU continued support of the PLO).

Second, according to Frontline, a shipment of "triggers" (that were made inoperable by the manufacturer) were sent from the USA to Capetown to Dubai (via DHL) to Islamabad as part of a STING OPERATION. At roughly the same time, a German freighter was intercepted by Italian, British, and American agents, transporting (operable) uranium-enrichment equipment to Libya - so by your logic the Germans should be profiled and viewed with suspicion as well.

I thought that we do not officially profile (as one could be a white kid from California, a Filippino, a European, a Pakistani, an Indian, a Kurd or an Arab and be a member of al Qeada). I'm sure there is a database with names of interest though.

I believe any thinking person, if they looked into it would find that using your criterion. If the UAE isn't a squeaky clean ally, then the United States of America is a bedlam dump ally.

That reality is so objectively obvious, I have no idea why any rational individuals would expect the hysteria that occurred over the DP deal.

This whole port thing reaffirms my simple proffer that most people are really really stupid some of the time and led by fear and ignorance.

And profiling individuals in a time sensitive transactions is very very different that a complete ban of individuals where time is available to check them out.

triggers for nukes being shipped through Dubai.

yes, it was a sting operation and dubai was part of it according to what i read on various posts, reports.. dubai was tracking shipments through it and reporting to cia.

wolfe cnn just today interviewed captain in charge of u.s.naval operations at Dubai at noon. when Wolf asked what grade he give Dubai.. the captain like in school... A+..

I wonder why are military feel comfortable but us uninformed public are not aware of the contributions Dubai has or is making. could they really be supporting our military and cia operations.

did congress screw up a positive thing in having a top firm run several of our terminals and update the operations with latest tech.

We either profile them or we don't.........this kind of selectivity is dangerous and hypocritical.

I agree, and I think most Americans would agree with us that Profiling and any other reasonable method should be used in determining who is a terrorist and who isnt.
The Port thing was a business deal, instead of zeroing in on Port Security the lily livered cowards of the Congress and the hysterical media (bent only on discrediting the Bush Administration) probably threw out the baby with the bath water. Now all the securitiy improvements they promised TO PAY FOR likely will not be done as its very UNLIKELY the next company will have the desire or the means to do so. jdn
