Birthday girl killed by stray gunfire in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood (Chicago)
AP ^ | March 11, 2006

CHICAGO For the second time in as many weeks, a child in Chicago's South Side has been killed by a stray bullet while at home.

The latest was a ten-year-old girl shot during her birthday party. She would have turned eleven today.

The girl (Siretha White) was inside her aunt's first-floor apartment celebrating with her cousins when a bullet was fired from a white Cadillac. It came through the window.

A witness identified the gunman. Police have arrested several men.

The shooting came a few blocks from the home of a 14-year-old honor student killed by a stray bullet from an assault rifle that went through a window of her family's home. A suspect has been charged with first-degree murder in that case.
