Iraqi Group Say They've Killed 5 al-Qaida
AP ^ | 13 Mar 2006 | Unknown

BAGHDAD, Iraq - An armed group created with government backing to drive al-Qaida fighters out of a restive Iraqi province claimed Monday that it had killed five top members of the terror group.

The claim came in a statement posted on an Islamic Web site and attributed to the Anbar Revenge Brigade, recently formed by tribal leaders of the western Anbar province. "Your brothers, heroes of the Revenge Brigade, carried out the killing of five important elements of al-Qaida group, avenging the death of the sons of our Ramadi city," the statement said.

It listed the names of four alleged al-Qaida leaders. The fifth man, it said, was from Ansar al-Sunnah, a terrorist group affiliated with al-Qaida.

The claim was the first Internet posting by the Anbar Revenge Brigades and could not be independently verified.

BUBBA'S RAINMAKERS SLOW TO $PILL FOR HILL (White House sleepovers stiffing Hillary)
NY POST ^ | March 13, 2006 | IAN BISHOP Post Correspondent

Nearly a decade after President Bill Clinton wooed Dem fat cats and Tinseltown titans with lavish Lincoln Bedroom sleepovers, his political investment is paying only modest dividends for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's re-election fund-raising.

An exhaustive Post study of White House and federal fund-raising records found that nearly 20% of Bubba's White House sleepover guests have ponied up cash for his wife's re-election - fewer than one in five of the more than 1,100 overnighters.

A 2000 review by the Center for Responsive Politics found that 40% of White House sleepover guests coughed up campaign cash while Bill was still in the Oval Office - flooding Hillary's 2000 Senate campaign with more than $620,000.

"FOBs are not necessarily FOHs," quipped University of Virginia political scholar Larry Sabato, referring to friends of Bill and Hill. "Think of the two of them - who's the one who collects friends? Bill."

In the late 1990s, Republicans and campaign watchdog groups lit into the Clintons for leveraging the White House and the Lincoln Bedroom as a fund-raising factory.

They accused Bubba of using the bedroom to reward Dem donors who doled out big ducats to the national party, Al Gore's presidential bid, and Hillary Clinton's 2000 Senate run.

.....Hollywood hotshots like Tom Hanks, Meg Ryan, Dennis Quaid and Will Smith, have kept their wallets closed. And former "Cheers" star Ted Danson, who forked over more than $10,000 to Clinton's first Senate run, hasn't given a dime to her this go-round.

Norway: Krekar claims Islam will win

aftenposten. ^ | 03/13/06 | aftenposten.

Norway's most controversial refugee, Mullah Krekar, told an Oslo newspaper on Monday that there's a war going on between "the West" and Islam. He said he's sure that Islam will win, and he also had praise for suspected terrorist leader Osama bin Laden.

"We're the ones who will change you," Krekar told Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet in his first interview since an uproar broke out over cartoons deemed offensive to Muslims.

"Just look at the development within Europe, where the number of Muslims is expanding like mosquitoes," Krekar said. "Every western woman in the EU is producing an average of 1.4 children. Every Muslim woman in the same countries are producing 3.5 children.

"By 2050, 30 percent of the population in Europe will be Muslim."

He claimed that "our way of thinking... will prove more powerful than yours." He loosely defined "western thinking" as formed by the values held by leaders of western or non-islamic nations. Its "materialism, egoism and wildness" has altered Christianity, he claimed.

Krekar, who's been supported by the Norwegian government since arriving as a refugee from northern Iraq in the early 1990s, now faces deportation after violating the terms of his refugee status and being deemed a threat to national security.

Bin Laden 'a good man' Krekar told Dagbladet that he favours Islamic rule where political and religious leaders are one and the same. One such leader he respects, he said, is Osama bin Laden.

"Osama bin Laden is a good person," Krekar said. He claimed Osama bin Laden is considered a terrorist simply because he lacks his own state.

"Those who say Osama bin Laden is a terrorist are themselves killing our women and children," Krekar said.

Attempts to "spread democracy," he claimed, are merely a ruse to wage war against Islam, adding that "the West destroyed the Taliban regime in Afghanistan" because "it feared the Islamic state."
