Byrd is not racist. That was 40-50 years ago. It was due to the place where he grew up, the conditions there at that time. Many southerners have changed since the 1950's on racial issues. In fact, I was listening to an interview with Charlie Daniels where he talked about that, how in his hometown growing up racism was automatic, until the late 60's when he woke up and got real.

Byrd have proven he's not racist by his actions. And the Sean Hannity types owe him a big apology for mis-using this half century old KKK BS. Hannity should talk.

The NRA can claim they're not racist all they want, but I don't see them reaching out to any blacks to get them to join the club. On the contrary, they're suing Ray Nagin over his wanting the city disarmed during the crisis, at a time when rightwingers were ranting about going in and shooting "looters" (code word for blacks).
