The reason Intel has been acting so frantically this month is that Athlon X2 will be 80 to 110mm2 on 65nm (depending on whether it's the L3 version or not). AMD will be able to make about 15 million high end X2's and Opterons per quarter on the 12" wafers at FAB36.

Add to that 12 million low end parts from Fab 30 and 6 million parts from Chartered and AMD can ship 27 million parts per quarter.

The big OEMs may not really need Intel by the end of the year. It'll be nice to have around as a check on AMD but...
