Sam, my guess is that Intel is trying to clear out inventory, and will try to speed up launching their next gen products. I don't see how they can hope to benefit from a price war given AMD's improved finances. But I'm sure they want to protect their current market share. And if it takes price drop to do that, they will.

edit. The reason Intel didn't drop prices in q4 to protect market share was they didn't have chipsets. So dropping prices wouldn't increase sales. Apparently they've got the chipsets now. Chipsetrs were not mentioned in the warning.
