"When the president of the United States breaks the law, he must be held accountable," the Wisconsin Democrat told the Senate.

"The founders anticipated abuses of executive power by creating a balance of powers in the Constitution," he said. "Supporting and defending the Constitution, as we have taken an oath to do, require us to preserve that balance, and to have the will to act."

Feingold said the administration was playing a "game of intimidation" that appeared to be working.

"Even Republican senators have said this is not within the law," he said, referring to the wiretapping program. "But the intimidation campaign of calling people names makes people apparently afraid of saying exactly what the law is and stand up for the Constitution."

He's a potential presidential candidate. I assume he didn't vote for the war? If so, the Dems might finally have a worthwhile candidate. The others didn't do their due diligence - you don't start a war with the wrong country. They should have spent $300B/year fighting terrorism to make the USA safe, rather than playing the role of imperialism.

Bush Approval Rating Sinks to 36% on War Concern, Poll Shows
March 13 (Bloomberg) -- President George W. Bush's job- approval rating fell to a record low in a CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll, as concern about the Iraq conflict approaches levels of public discontent during the last years of the Vietnam War.

We criticize the Dems for doing nothing, but this slide in Bush's ratings is not new, and yet, we see neither the Bush administration nor the Congressional GOPers doing anything effective to stop the slide.

I think for both groups its called being out of touch with your constituents.
