Do you notice that difference in any applications that you run ?

At home we have six computers (for five people - 3 intel, 3 AMD). And for tasks such as recording live TV or ripping DVD's there is absolutely no performance difference between the AMD Athlon 64 3000 and the P4 2.6 GHz w/HT. They both rip a 20 min TV episode in 10 minutes. They both record and browse adequately. They both load i-Tunes the same way, etc....

However, I was educated yesterday to the fact that the Athlon is 4 speed grades faster than the P4. From experience, one would never know that. And I think that fact is irrelevant to nearly all computer buyers.

I am curious as to how a single P4 670 3.8GHz gets sold then ?
