Well my grandfather called me as my mom was out of town saying he thought he was having a heart attack and that I needed to take him to the hospital. Like a fool I did so. Later on it was obvious I should have just called an ambulance, but at any rate off we go on the 30 mile drive. So I get him there and I am his secondary power of attorney so I am signing him in and they take him back and wire him up and the on call guy tells the nurse to give him 4 aspirin. So I finish up and go sit with him until Bob the wonder boy, cardiologist extraordinaire comes swishing into the room barking at this nurse like she is a dog. Already I now have a blood pressure problem. Then he tells the nurse he would like her to give G 4 aspirin and she started to come back saying do you want 4 more as I've giving him 4 but wonder boy cuts her off and asks her if she's deaf do as I'm instructing you. Now my bp is approaching the point where I'm going to be in need of care soon. So then wonder boy reads the ekg and says well Mr Hammer your having a heart attack and so what we are going to do here is give you some medication to clear the blockage, I'm going to take you upstairs and we are going to do a bypass and by tomorrow you will be feeling like a new man. I said excuse me sir but we need to slow down here because he can not be put under as he will die on the table. Wonder boy looks at me with disdain and says you need to wait outside as we have work that needs to be done at which point Oral Roberts went into orbit. After we established that I had medical power of attorney and that G was deferring to my judgment he calmed a little and said well how would you like to proceed. Now we have an orderly and 2 nurses in the room at this point when Oral tells him this is exactly how we are going to proceed, A: your going to shut your rude f-ing mouth and you are going to get the f out of here and then we are going to find a Doctor who is both a:competent and b: not a dickhead. I thought the lower help was going to pee themselves trying to keep from laughing and I thought he was going to stroke out. He took one step towards me and I got up out of the chair and glared down at him, 5 second pause and he left. Bring in an older guy abut 5 minutes later from the cardio floor who introduces himself and asks if there is a problem and I said no the problem has left. I said he is allergic to anesthetic and goes into cardiac arrest when put under so we need to slow down a bit here and see what other options we have. He has been looking at the tape while I was talking and he said well then we will just give him a bit of a sedative before we perform the procedure and I'm like wow you can do a bypass with a bit of a sedative? He looked at me and said well no but your grandfather is in atria fib <sp> and we need to give him a shock to get his heart beat back into a good rhythm and he wants to be a bit sedated for that. I said well isn't that just cool since the other knob was going to carve him open because he had blockage. Unreal. Anyhow after being shocked back to normal and then the next day having a pace maker installed he was like a new man for the last 5 years of his life. As an aside wonder boy did not last much longer after this as he was hell on nurses, patients and anyone else he came in contact with according to a friends wife that I told the story to a year or so later who is a nurse there. Couldn't have happened to a nicer jerk. Edit: Talk about long winded, but hey, you asked:)_
