[CPST] Capstone C65 Receives UL NEC Class 1, Division 2 Certification
Wednesday March 15, 8:54 pm ET
UL Certifies Model for Hazardous Area Placement

CHATSWORTH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 15, 2006--Capstone Turbine Corporation® (www.microturbine.com; Nasdaq:CPST - News), the world's leading manufacturer of microturbine energy systems, today announced that Underwriters Laboratories Inc. has confirmed that Capstone's 65-kilowatt microturbine product has received the UL certification for operation in hazardous-area oil & gas applications. This certification states that the Capstone C65 model for oil & gas platforms meets the stringent NEC Class I, Division 2, Groups C and D classification where explosive gases may be present under abnormal conditions.

Last year, Capstone became the first stationary engine manufacturer to receive UL certification for NEC Class I, Division 2 for its C30 model.

"Several oil companies have requested a higher output unit with this important Class I, Division 2 rating," said Capstone CEO John R. Tucker. "As a resource recovery system, our microturbine products have several distinct advantages over competing technologies. This newly certified C65 uses wellhead gas to deliver twice the power output and power density of our Class I, Division 2 C30, a great competitive advantage in this market."

Capstone has been active for several years in the development of site-gas-fueled microturbine products for the oil & gas industry. The company currently has microturbine products operating on oil & gas platforms in the Gulf of Mexico, Bay of Campeche, Gulf of Alaska, the North Sea, Mediterranean Sea and South China Sea.

The company plans to display an operating Class I, Division 2 microturbine in its outdoor exhibit area # 7100 of the Offshore Technology Conference May 1-4 in Houston, Texas. The OTC event is the world's largest trade show for the offshore oil & gas industry.
