It just bamboozles me. I know none of us understand the simplest things until we figure it out and some things seem superficially sensible until we think what we are really saying. How about this for an idea to explain my point? If Iran was to build the nuclear power plant where they plan to terminate the pipeline in India, that would supply India with the equivalent energy. Maybe they would need to build 3 nuclear power plants to supply enough energy to be equivalent. And suppose instead of building the thermal power stations in India, which would have to be built at the end of the gas pipeline, they build the same number of thermal power stations in Iran at the beginning of the pipeline. Then the same energy output would be achieved without the cost of building the gas pipeline. The gas pipeline is in the $billions to build and it will go across Pakistan and Afghanistan, which I guess you know are not necessarily the most stable countries politically and are not necessarily going to let India get gas [say there is a war with India over Kashmir or religion for example]. I am sure that explanation is so succinct and clear that anyone could understand it. Do you see a defect in the explanation? I really won't believe it if you come up with one and will have to think you are just being silly, playing games, playing with words or something odd other than trying to come to a mutual understanding of what it all means. But of course I will consider any explanation. I am sure I will just be shaking my head in disbelief, but if you see a fault, have a go at explaining it. We don't need to know anything about Iran's reserves. That's irrelevant. We don't need to know anything about their need for foreign exchange, or reserves, to see my point. Iranians [not all of them anyway] are not total morons. They can figure out that as well as anyone. So, why would they do such a dopey thing as build an unnecessary vulnerable pipeline and nuclear power stations in Iran instead of in India? Add the idea that they want the bomb and note their expressed desire to wipe Israel off the map and then it will all make very good sense. Goebbels used to say just tell a BIG lie and people will believe it. He was right. It's fascinating. I think it has something to do with alpha male primate syndrome - people want to believe the boss man or something and our ability to think isn't as good as we think. It's also an ego thing = because we think it, it feels good, makes sense to us, so it must be right, because our self-identities are so robust. Something like that. Or maybe it's Stockholm Syndrome and path of least resistance and general compliance with what seems the safest path of beliefs is adopted with true belief in the face of scary violence and threat.
