That's true,

<<Lam is finally starting to get the respect many of us said they deserved.>>

but they had to work at it a long time to get that respect. Credit Suisse, who came out with the upgrade today, and a higher price target, has greatly under estimated earnings for the last several quarters. One of the places to review quarterly estimates versus quarterly actuals is at:(scroll down)

Earnings turned positive in Q1 2003. If you review the actual versus the estimate column since that quarter, you can see the sequential growth that has taken place. Last quarter they released earnings on 18 Jan that "blew away" the estimate of 0.39 when they reported 0.55 per share, a 41 percent "overage".

That report, and their forward looking outlook to the analysts have resulted in a considerable jump in earnings outlook for Q3, now scheduled for release on 12 April. Given their past history of exceeding estimates, they may beat the consensus estimate again this quarter.

Even with all the price gains for LRCX lately, they are still considerably under valued compared to most stocks in the Group. This is shown in the tabular data for the Group listed in,

At last Friday's close, the PEG was 0.80, second only to MTSN at 0.78. Just to note NVLS for a moment, it has a PEG of 1.38 and is 4th from the bottom in the table.

Stock fortunes can sometimes change quite quickly, but for the moment, LRCX looks very, very good. More will be know about how they are doing upon their Q3 earnings release on 12 April, and most importantly, their outlook for the future.
