A bud of mine who has a good track record thinks that Ahmadinejad is a cia plant who has spent the last year earning his bones. If that is the case and i seriously doubt it, now would be about the time to do the reverse route nixon goes to china strategy as relates to the US and perhaps even israel. A grand settlement in the Mideast among jews, christians, the west, shiaa and reasonable sunnis. In this scenario the major common enemy to both the US and Iran is al quaeda and the wahabi fanatics in Saudi Arabia. A US/Iran/Turkey/ alliance which controls the iraq situation in a better way than currently done; controls the lebanon situation; and leads to a Hamas/Israel detente would be a big thing. Mike PS I know this is far fetched but i understand from others that Ahmadinejad is popular among the students too--that the nationalism from a secular source if more agreeable to them than from the mullahs.
