GZ, what are you talking about? Taxes have not been raised since 1993. The tax increase of 93 produced balanced budgets in the late 90s. Then, we had a big tax cut in 2001 which will result in doubling the national debt in 8 years of Bush.

If raising taxes reduces the deficit, then how come we still have one considering taxes have been raised time and time again? We all know that Washington doesn't work that way... any time Washington gets any extra money, they find ways to spend it, this is common knowledge... maybe raising taxes is just reinventing the same broken wheel again and again? This is the sad truth. If citizens actually believed that an increase in taxes would be utilized for stated purposes, even broadly stated purposes (such as true job creation, lowering the deficit, honestly fixing Social Security) the willingness to step up as a community would be much greater. But, like Gore's Social Security lockbox, the premise of actually targeting revenue increase without spending increases, just balancing the books, is met with laughter because we all know hwo congress works. Sadly, many hoped the republicans would be different in this regard, but they have been every bit as bad as the democrats were. So nobody believes anything either party says on the subject. When I hear the republicans call themselves the party of small government I have to choke. Actions speak louder than words.
