It is hardly necessary for me to demonstrate to you or anyone else how these myths fall short of what reasonable people consider factual.> And hence the great vast expanse of area where 'fact' is really a matter of opinion. While most people will say the "Zeus" is mythological or superstitious (myself included) most people will also (I think) say that Jesus existed (myself included), including many many scientists. <But how about yourself? I would be interested in knowing your opinion, as you do ask a lot of questions on the thread. Could you give me an example of a superstition and a myth from your perspective?> Greek gods? Mythological Jesus? Too recent and to much documentation. IMHO Jesus existed. Bible? Obviously someone chronicled, passed on, and then at some point wrote down a lot of stuff. Giant game of "Telephone" with little of the original 'words' or meaning left? Yes. Some original words and meaning? Yes. Bible worth reading? Parts yes, most no. Taoist texts worth reading: YES Buddhist "stuff" worth reading: YES Noa's Ark: Myth Great flood? Maybe, who cares. "Sun Gods", "God of Rain", etc. Myths <But it is unnecessary for you to obscure my simple statement by comparison to philosophical paths which sometimes morphed into religions> You said all religions... just correcting. <Btw, my generalizations about pre-scientific religions (such as Christianity, Judaism, Mithraism, Jainism, Nez Perces, etc.) incorporating superstitious thought is hardly debatable.> But if your generalization that Christianity AROUSE OUT OF, or morphed from superstitious thought with no intervening catalist (Jesus) makes no sense IMHO. Further, what DIDN'T morph out of 'superstitious thought'? Philosophy arouse out of the same conciousness that everything else did. And don't count those 'philisophical' religions in and Christianity out so quickly as the latter is similar, and the basis of much of our legal and moral system today. I'd just as soon keep the topic 'god' and not religion... that way you are free to use what you find to be "truth" in religion and not reject it... but aren't constrained by the non-truth. What I find interesting about "God" & science today: 1.) Science is showing that observing or putting your attention on something changes it. That would be my interpretation of praying. [Interestingly psychologists (as far as I know) have shown that even what many consider to be 'crappy' attention or parenting, is much better than neglect.] See Hologram below. 2.) Qi-gong masters assert that thoughts carry energy. Scientists are also wondering what exactly IS thought anyway?? Many would agree that they are some sort of wave or energy, since everything IS. 3.) Latest physics speculates the Universe may be a hologram....(god created man in his own image?) Taoist masters inveneted accupuncture and Chinese medicine thousands of years ago based on the body and universe as a hologram. If you are part of a hologram, if you change yourself, you change the whole. This is ALSO the basis for the belief that become enlightened is much more important than just running around being holy and trying to help people... ie. if you make yourself a better, more loving person, you make the "whole" or "ONE" better and more loving... literally. The energy of love brightens the entire picture.... [when you blot out a piece of holographic film the whole picture becomes dimmer, the picture isn't must missing a part... like regular film. Jesus great commandment was 'love god with all your heart, mind, etc all the time'... ie. become a loving person. [Interestingly, arguably his most important words... and what does everyone talk about?? 10 commandments, adultery, etc. Pretty funny.] 4.)Interesting speculation on what 'scaling' means(Feigenbaum) as well as systems within systems and possibility of other dimensions, etc. Eastern religions use pictures of many turtles on each othres back and variations on that and the theme that the universe we see is an illusion... which is pretty much what physics seems to be finding out. 5.)Non-locality??? all of the above. Anyway... there's lots of potential truth in speaking of god... I have no interest in rehashing the other. As far as evolution vs creationism, as I said before... science by definition is an attempt to describe god. I dont' get the whole argument except that some probably deny that god created them from "lower" forms of animal. Well, that's their problem!! LOL DAK
