I read Stephen King's On Writing and he described writing as a form of telepathy over time. The gist of what he said was this: he could have an idea or a thought, write it down, you could find it years later and now you know what he was thinking as if the time that passed never happened. You could even find it long after he was dead and it worked just as well as if you read it minutes after he wrote it.
