The Unocal pipeline deal in Afghanistan may well have been an immediate cause of 9/11. In order to secure the deal the Bush administration was trying to drive a wedge between Bin Laden and the Taliban. This prompted Bin Laden to counter with a deal of his own, the assasination of Masoud. The actual attack on the World Trade Center may have been scheduled to coincide with the assasination. TP
