You are correct. Samarra is a Sunni area north of Baghdad, with a Shiite minority. It's where the famous golden dome of the (Shiite) Al Askari Mosque was recently bombed.

Yes, I was incorrect regarding location, but the original point was that this is a large SHIITE area and could be a staging area for Iranians that snuck into the country. jdn
