Iran is a big money maker for russia. Same as we and SA staying cozy past 9/11 even though we know that the wahabis who largely agree with bin ladens beliefs even if not his tactics make their home there. The russians thought they could control the iranians and they couldnt. The iranians thought that the godless russians would cave in for money and to their credit, they didnt. The Euros know the threat that a nuke iran poses and they have stood firm. Now iran wants to talk to us--maybe they think they can fool us?? or maybe they realize that they need to adjust policy and will do so if the US can guarantee their security. Al quaeda types often base in iran--shiaa iranians hate these dudes but allow them free passage because of common enemy US--geopolitics tells me this doesnt have to be. Can mullahs moderate? Can Bush negotiate with axis of evil member. Hell yes on both.
