"Saddam have WMD" Sure! He used poison gas against the Iranian Revolutionary Guards "human wave" assaults in the trench lines of the Basra area towards the end of the Iran/Iraq Gulf War (with a 'wink and a nod' from the US... Rummie went to Baghdad and shook hands with the Dictator after Saddam was confirmed to have used Mustard gas on the Iranians, and shared US satelitte intel with him about the Iranian positions, the better for his war effort).... AND Saddam ordered the gas attack on an entire Kurdish town after the Kurds rose up in rebellion against his regine --- (when Bush I called for uprisings after Desert Storm, and promised them US support.) When it became clear that the US President was not going to keep his promise, Saddam went 'hell-for-leather' to crush both the Kurdish and the Shiite rebellions.... Of course, as the official US inquiries (not to mention the UN inquiries) into the state of his WMD programs, conducted AFTER we occupied the country and had access to all the facilities and records and personell, concluded: the VAST BULK of his weaponized WMD and his supply chains for producing more were DESTROYED in the Desert Storm bombings (the US analysis concluded that "some 90% + of his WMD programs" were destroyed in the bombings), and the rest decayed beyond useability in the decade following Desert Storm as a result of the sanctions placed on Iraq (first, the US and Britain's sanctions... later the UN's sanctions also), and normal end-of-life technical issues. That, and, LOL!, the fact that the Dictator apparently decided that he didn't really need expensive WMD, so long as everyone THOUGHT he already had robust WMD stocks. He lied to the world, and to his own people... and his own people lied to him as well. :) "Not to mention snubbing the UN like what? 17 times?" Yep. He sure DID! (I believe that ONLY ISRAEL has violated MORE UN resolutions....) "Not to mention starving his own people while he built new palaces for himself using oil for food money." Yep! I'm sure you won't be surprised to learn that most ALL DICTATORS are CROOKS. (Though you are over-stating the amount of money he was able to siphon off of the Oil for Food program. As Volker's inquiry established --- the Dictator was able to earn FAR MORE MONEY, nine or ten times more money, by the smuggling of oil, outside of the Oil for Food program, through Syria, and our allies Turkey and Jordan. Far more! The word was that we didn't try to clamp down on this massive sanctions-busting smuggling... because it would have destabilized our allies. But --- the smuggling by truck was clearly visible every single day on the highways out of Iraq.... "Not to mention sending money to the families of suicide murderers in Palestine." Yep --- he started doing that after the Saudi's made a big splash in the Arab media by giving cash to 'martyr's' families. Saddam was engaging in a PR 'war' with the Saudi Royal Family... but, after the Saudis RAISED the amount of cash they were giving to each family, Saddam couldn't afford to match the amount. (They both kept giving the cash out, though.)
