To: sylvester80 who wrote (183698 ) 3/17/2006 9:27:29 PM From: Hawkmoon Respond to of 281500 Congressman Paul Findley makes the point that Israel, with the collusion of the power elite on our continent, has been successful over the decades in keeping the United Nations on the sidelines in efforts to find a solution to the Middle East problem and to create real peace: Oh well... I guess it was alright in your eyes for the French, Russians, and Chinese to put their own corrupt economic ties to Iraq in front of their duty to upholding BINDING economic and military sanctions against Iraq. Then there was that issue about $11 Billion dollars in misppropriated Oil For Food money that found it's way into the pockets of the French, Russians, and just about anyone else who was willing to sell out the UN Charter for their own economic gain. Is that what you want? A UN that is corrupted by totalitarianist regimes? I hear you constantly rag about corporate corruption, but is more "corporate" than a few tribal elites dominating 20 million people and having the ability to make life and death decisions over them with no accountability? You heard Saddam.. He said he didn't break the law by killing those 140 Shi'ites he claimed were trying to assassinate him.. Because HE WAS THE LAW!! Is this the liberal vision you have in mind for Amerika??? As for Israel, regardless of whether you like them or not, they have been recipient of countless terrorist attacks, and a prolonged state of war with various neighbors and other Arab states that REFUSE to make peace with them. Where are all the UN resolutions, binding or otherwise, that condemn THEIR rocket attacks, suicide bombings, support for terrorists and outright vows to destroy the only stable democracy in the region? Was the UN charter designed to be corrupted by totalitarian regimes so that can utilize it to destroy accountable democratic governments that only want to defend themselves? It's hardly logical to condemn Israel when they have followed through on their promise of "land for peace" in returning occupied territories. They did it with Egypt, despite the historical ties that Israelis feel for the Sinai. They were willing to return the West Bank, minus Jerusalem, to Jordan in exchange for peace. But King Hussein pursued the interests of his regime and eventually abdicated all Jordanian claims to the West Bank. And that's why they are occupied there.. because there has never been an accountable and stable government that was willing to make peace with Israel. If someone attacked you where you were most vulnerable, and the only law was what you made for yourself, I'm DAMN SURE that you'd take whatever steps you had to in order to protect yourself and your family. Why are you so willing to deny that same right to Israel? Is that what liberals have in mind for us? To deny us our right to self-defense from hostile threats?? The UN "condemning" Israel is like a Judge telling a rape victim that they "asked for it" and had no right to retaliate or fight back. Is this what you liberals have in mind for Amerika? Hawk
