Since Nixon created the EPA it's not unreasonable to think we could have Republicans again with a sense of balance between growth and environmental protection. Seems like one of the easier issue for a reasonable moderate to strike a balance.

If the current brand of Republicans sinks as low as it seems they might, the door is wide open for a different breed to take up the banner by the next election. Already we are seeing Congressional Republicans start to split on individual issues.

No good reason to see why, since they aren't anti-environment in the first place.
