I agree that efficiency is a good thing, but SO far, the only cars with great gas mileage are small vehicles....which much of the population has already rejected.

As far as getting away from Middle Eastern oil, that suits me fine. We still have many opportunities to increase our own production, and have had for years, but for the environmental nuts.
