You're tap-dancing around the truth. It's not about America.

But for Chomsky, it's precisely about America. He has apologized for the Khmer Rouge and the Ayatollahs because America is always worse.

The point you were objecting to was "anybody America hates is okay by them." It's not only true for Chomsky, but the Edward Said "Orientalist" school also pushes it - for them, for the West to make judgements on native Muslim cultures, as in, say, holding the Ayatollahs to account for their human rights record, is just a branch of big bad colonialism.

Now, I grant you that cause of Palestine is more fashionable than that of the Ayatollahs (the Ayatollahs lack the advantage of fighting the Israelis I guess). But they'll apologize for the Ayatollahs too. The engine of the whole affair is anti-Americanism/ "anti-Orientalism" or "anti-Colonialism" or whatever fashionable term you choose.

It's not as if they positively cared FOR any lot of Arabs or Persians. If they did, they would also care when their human rights were abused by other Arabs or Persians. They don't give a damn.
