Inflation perceptions will vary according to different spending patterns. That is why it is important to have honest measurement, which CPI is not. Somebody living in a cold climate, that just bought his first home, commutes to work 50 miles each way, maybe is taking care of a sick parent, likes to eat out a lot, stays in hotels a lot, and is not an electronics/computer geek will perceive inflation to be 20%. On the other hand, somebody that lives in warm climate, has owned a house for at least a decade, has his property taxes capped, walks to work, cooks at home, no medical issues, and who derives more pleasure from spending money on electronic gadgetry and computers rather than travel and leisure, will perceive inflation to be 0%. The truth is somewhere in the middle.

UncleBigs Since you've chosen to respond in an obnoxious fashion and disclose to this board more of your YAHOO message boards persona, I'll choose to respond back to you in kind. Timba, you sound like the overspent American. Your powers of observation and analysis have always been your weakest features as displayed in your posts. You think you sound clever, but many observers see the deficits. I have the assets to pay off all debt I carry and I only carry debt because I earn far more return on that money than it costs to carry it. Just so we're clear on this, my brokerage statements have a neat little feature where they provide me with the annualized rates of return on my accounts. They only provide this data for the last 5 years (when they instituted this feature). Across all of my accounts my IRR for the accounts for the last 5 years has been 46% and my average costs of carrying credit is about 5%.....But don't let the facts get in the way of a cheap shot. Obviously insurance costs for an overweight, older Florida resident are not applicable to the nation as a whole Are you saying that health insurance costs in Florida are higher than elsewhere in the country? Do you have any definitive proof whether this American is over or under weight? Are you implying also that insurance costs for moronic posters like you are lower matching your IQ potentials? Some on this board may jump on your side of this argument and think I'm being too harsh on you. They are entitled to their opinion, but I didn't strike first, nor will I let a first strike go unanswered. I've told you over on Yahoo that I would like to meet you in person and settle this arrogance of yours face to face. You need a lesson in manners and I'll be only too happy to help supply it. You should factor in your higher medical costs when you decide to indulge in Steak and Lobster with extra butter and sour cream and then top it all off with a pack of cigs. If ignorance had a face, your picture would be in the dictionary. I choose to live a good life because I can, it's a shame that that capability apparently exceeds your grasp as does intelligent discourse, but as you've indicated, some of us do make lifestyle choices.....perhaps your shortcomings are more genetic in nature? Oh, and for the record: I love lobster with drawn butter....no sour cream (yuck)....and I quit smoking 15 years ago and recent XRays show that the lungs are clear. It's a lifestyle choice Timba. You've chosen to overindulge yourself. That's your own fault. If overindulgence was, indeed, the problem then perhaps you would be correct. Living a better life I don't see as being a problem, even when one has to suffer fools like you. If you were nearly as eager in self-examination as you are in denigrating those you have never met, your levels of personhood might stand a chance of rising above boorishness, however, this board looks like it must suffer you showing it the face many of us have had inflicted upon us on other venues.
