You could be right, but let me turn it around on you GZ. Do you think the majority of Americans got what they thought they were voting for in 2000? Bush was gonna be smaller government, balanced budgets, no scandels in the administration, no foreign adventures....maybe an Eisenhower Republican. Sure 9/11 changed everything...but a so-called small government compassionate conservative he is not. So, to answer you question...what kind of republican will stand up in 2008 and say: "I'm not like Bush, I'm like Bush said he would be in 2000." If the American people back in 2000 could use the Wayback machine and look forward six years but not know which candidate had won the election. But they were told only that (forget 9/ll and iraq) this President would have the fastest rate of domestic spending since WWII, AND approve a new Medicare drug program that would be way over cost estimates, AND not veto a single bill of any type, and run massive deficits...don't you think they would think Gore had won? The republicans under Bush aren't republicans....at least what republicans used to be.
