Sure. Remember how DDR (The Democratic Republic of Germany) was knocking us all around in Olympics?

They - and in particular so their 25 million locked up citizens - were getting along real well with the rest of the world.

re: The Olympics too....little Austria almost knocked us out of second place.

Maybe I'm reading more into it than I should. But there seems to be a correlation between how well a countries sports teams are doing, and how well the country is getting along with the rest of the world.

Probably my imagination.

Oh I don't know.......the Oakland Raiders moved to LA during LA's golden period when it hosted the Olympics.......meanwhile Oakland had entered a dark period in its history. Ten years later in 1994 during the peak of its problems, the Raiders left LA and went back to Oakland which was just beginning to experience a renaissance. Meanwhile 12 years later, LA, the second largest market in the country, has still not been able to put a team package together.

Sports are just one tell.....stand it alone it doesn't mean much.....stack it up with a bunch of other tells and then it speaks volumes.
