I agree with your comment about more freedom for individuals.

I think much of the distortion in our society has evolved out of laws which confer too many of the protections of individual liberty onto "corporate persons". Operating through a corporation,is too easily an opportunity to gain the rights of operating as an individual without the obligations of an individual.

One example is the sad safety record of American based airlines. Airlines like Qantas have proven that the American style death toll is not necessary or normal, having never experienced a fatal accident since they began operations around 1923 - and they fly a lot of miles.

The Napoleonic Code in operation in France and other locations pierces the corporate veil by holding employees of a corporation criminally responsible for their criminal actions just as if they had been operating by themselves. A ten year prison sentence captures more attention than a possible fine or lawsuit paid by the corporation.

We are seeing a modest shift in this direction, but by no means enough in my estimation.
