Re: "I think the founder's main point is not religious, but the assertion that certain rights are inherent and inalienable. Although some on the left may disagree with the source of those rights, most agree that these rights are inalienable.

However, one of the beautiful things about the Constitution is that we can have differing moral doctrines - say, humanists and Christians - living together in relative harmony, with a binding set of laws that apply equally to all. It is when one facet attempts to unbalance the equation by imposing non-universal tenets from their doctrines that we run into conflict...."

Very WELL SAID.

Talk about terminal "oprahbrain"!! Any INALIENABLE rights can only come from GOD.

But then, God has serious doubts about YOUR existence as well...

Although some on the left may disagree with the source of those rights, most agree that these rights are inalienable.

Therein is the conflict with your whole argument... the Constitution clearly stated that our "rights are endowed to us by our Creator, and among them..."

There is no question as to the origin of those rights... so the left continues to trip over itself and fall on its face by trying to undo what the document already clearly and specifically states for all to read...
