ADVERTISEMENT UBS analyst Nikos Theodosopoulos said in a client note Monday he estimates a total revenue opportunity of more than $700 million over the next two years for equipment vendors, as China Telecom Corp. builds out its next-generation Internet protocol network, CN2. China Telecom is a publicly traded subsidiary of China's state-owned telecom service provider, China Telecom Group, which owns a majority stake in the company. Theodosopoulos said he sees Alcatel and network equipment makers Cisco Systems Inc. and Juniper Networks Inc., as well as privately-held Huawei Technologies Co., as benefiting from the buildout. "Though we believe some small contracts have already been awarded, the vast majority of the spending is still ahead of us, and we expect to see notable impact on equipment vendor revenues in the second half of 2006," the analyst wrote in a client note. Alcatel's American depositary shares inched up 6 cents to $14.83 on the New York Stock Exchange, edging past their prior 52-week high of $14.79 on heavy trading volume. Cisco's shares slid 15 cents to $21.53 in recent trading on the Nasdaq, after earlier reaching a new 12-month high of $21.85. In the past 52 weeks, the stock has traded between $16.83 and $21.74. Shares of Juniper Networks climbed 29 cents to $19.79 on the Nasdaq.
