We hold X to be self-evident", you can safely assume they like the idea, but can in no way defend why. One of the slight flaws in the DOI. Because maybe the alternative, that others have the right to dominate and dictate the course of our lives and not to our benefit is something they are not willing to accept. I can't imagine having to live under a society where some elite is not accountable to the people it governs. Maybe my civics and history teachers did a better job of "indoctrinating" me than they did the others. But it's seem pretty damn logical to me that if we're unwilling to assist others in having the right to govern their own lives, then few people are going to be around, or willing, to help us should our own freedoms come under threat.
