It's true that the Chinese mostly chose to have one male child, a definite flaw in the policy. The way their economy is growing, they'll be able to import all the brides they need, maybe even the American blondes Asians seem to like. But do you REALLY think the Chinese would be better off with a population of 2 billion now? You think countries and the earth itself have an infinite capacity to support unlimited human populations? How many other species have we driven to extinction and near extinction? We've got to face the fact that our numbers and our technology is having an impact on all of our lives, and God (if there is one) has left it up to US to deal with it. The Chinese at least get it, at the government leve.l Do you have a clue? Get real.

Hi Mani, good to see you posting here. I think you're making the assumption all Chinese people participate in its economic boom and you're forgetting about poor people that were starving. It's better if less or no people starve. To address your post, you assume its growth is purely dependent upon growing from current middle class offspring, when in fact, the biggest fuel of growth for the Chinese Middle Class is actually the addition of poor people into the Middle Class, so you can have flat-line (or even declining) birth in MC, while the Middle Class continues to grow, provided your entry of poor people into the Middle Class continues to grow. You're assuming the MC only grows by offspring, rather than the growth via the raising of poor people. Additionally, more poor people will have jobs when they are hired by MC city people to help take care of their elderly parents. The poor people in the country tend to band together as large family units, so they probably will share their elder care duties. That would be my guess. Regards, Amy J
