You remember Captain Nemo? Now he can run all his engineering stuff and special algorithms to build that magic bomb and super duper sub eh? The spooks wont like that will they? What if he is a rich multinational and protein folds the cure for aids - sucking up all those "unlimited" cycles SUN promises? Here we will introduce an even GREATER divide between the digital haves and have nots perhaps. What if MERCK doesn't want to sell me the aids cure they have found and buy up all the CPU cycles from SUN GRID so that me or other competitors can't get it?!

They are already talking about a future's market in trading CPU cycles:

Message 22099949

we see great potential in building an exchange for trading CPU usage cycles

On the positive side though this "over provisioning" can be a really good thing.

Sun is offering a test drive of a Text-to-Speech application developed by Cepstral. Users can render their text or selected blogs to mp3 ready for podcast.

speaktext.com

demo.acapela-group.com

cepstral.com

Cepstral has pretty good text to speech - most think the ATT natural voice is the best.

They already pulled this though - less than a day on the net and it was abused! hehe

SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sun Microsystems, Inc. The new mobile web site is a companion site to Sun's java.com, the popular consumer entertainment site for Java powered games, productivity tools etc. and the global home to "Get Java Free" for the desktop. Upon its debut, mobile.java.com will already contain a range of Java Powered mobile applications including: action game Cannon Fodder, racing game Lotus Challenge, timed puzzle game Sudoku Solver, a winter wonderland-themed game called Snow Doku and NetChess that enables interactive play with live chess masters around the world. Developers of Java Powered games and other consumer content who wish to promote and sell their applications to a global audience are encouraged to submit their requests via the web site at www.java.com/en/dukeszone/featuresubmission.jsp.

"With over three billion Java Powered mobile devices in the hands of consumers worldwide, Java technology is the smart choice for developers, carriers and consumers seeking to deliver and run the most exciting mobile content. With the creation of mobile.java.com, Sun plans to provide a trusted site for consumers to discover, purchase and download mobile Java applications and to accelerate global awareness and market growth for the benefit of mobile carriers and developers," said Mark Herring, senior director, Java Brand Programs at Sun.

On mobile.java.com, Java developers can sell and deliver their games, ringtones, videos and other applications directly to mobile phone users worldwide on any network and use Bango, the mobile content enabler, to bill consumers anywhere in the world for their content. Powered by Bango's "browse and buy" technology, developers retain total flexibility and control over product offerings and pricing. This "direct-to-consumer" approach operates in conjunction with mobile carriers' content portals and offers consumers a range of ways to pay depending on the network users are on.
