Since when did the law stop protecting sexual abuse victims and begin requiring them to testify in front of the entire nation by broadcast? What's up with this?

The victim was forced to drop charges because he would have been forced to testify in front of the entire nation:

In a written statement, Assistant State Attorney Richard Ridgway said the trial was likely to be broadcast on cable television, raising concerns about the privacy of the boy Lafave was accused of molesting. He would have been the prosecution's key witness.
