I was wondering if anyone has been tracking a new TV series called "The Unit." I've watched two episodes so far.

My judgment: it's a carefully crafted propaganda device designed to show the superiority of a highly trained military big brother who comes in to save the day for stranded missionaries and National Guard outfits who are outclassed by terrorist airplane hijackers.

In other words, we know what's best for you and we are here to save you whether you like it or not. Field missionaries are "Bible Thumpers" putting their rescuers at risk for dubious reasons, and the National Guard is incompetent and territorial.

It uses a clever device of featuring macho "Rambo/Mission Impossible" style action to draw in people who think with their emotions rather than their brains.

It draws in women by featuring dedicated wives who support their highly trained warrior husbands by tolerating abusive behavior and hitting up congress critters for more funding for The Unit.

So far, I have a sort of love/hate relationship with the show. It makes some important points, but goes overboard with them.
