3:11PM Taxable money-fund yields top 4%; first time since May 2001 by John Spence
BOSTON (MarketWatch) -- Average yields for taxable money-market mutual funds broke through 4% for the first time since May 2001 for the week ended March 21, according to Money Fund Report, a service of iMoneyNet. Taxable yields added 4 basis points for the week to reach 4.01%, while average yields for tax-free and municipal funds gained 6 basis points to reach 2.55%, the company reported Wednesday afternoon. Meanwhile, taxable assets moved up $8.89 billion to $1.671 trillion as tax-free assets dropped $690.7 million to $352.65 billion, according to Westborough, Mass., iMoneyNet.
